Ponnani Beach is located at malapuram district and also one of the oldest port in kerala. It once served an important role as a centre of trade for the Portuguese, the British and Arab merchants. Historically, this town is significant for its role in the spread of the Islamic religion throughout the region.
This is an important fishing centre and the only port in the district.During the month of February/April thousands of migratory birds arrive here. Biyyan Kayal is located very close to Ponnani a placid green – fringed waterway plenty of water sport facility. The 600-year- old jama at Mosque is an important pilgrim centre of the Muslims of Kerala and has given Ponnani the name, the Mecca of the East.

By Air: Calicut Airport is situated in Malappuram district and it is 30 kilomtres away from Malappuram town. By Rail: Major railway stations are situated at Tirur, Kuttipuram, Angadipuram and Nilambur. It is well connected to all other major stations. Malappuram town is 55 kilometres away from Kozhikode Junction.
By Road: Two major National Highways passes through Malappuram District. NH 17 Connecting Calicut and Trissur passes through Kottakal and kuttipuram. NH 213 connecting Calicut and Palakkad passes through Kondoty, Malappuram and Perintalmanna. KSRTC buses are available round the clock running in these routes
